All You Need to know Equipment/Gameplay/Terminology

Equipment Needed to Play Darts

Dartboard: A standard dartboard is typically made of sisal fibers and has a circular design with numbered sections.

Darts: Each player uses three darts. Darts consist of a pointed metal tip, a barrel or shaft for gripping, and flights at the end to stabilize their flight. You can choose from various styles and weights of darts to suit your preferences.

Scoring System: To keep track of scores, you can use a chalkboard.

Gameplay

Darts can be played by two or more players. The objective is to score points by accurately throwing darts at the dartboard. The board is divided into numbered sections with different point values. Players take turns throwing three darts each, aiming to hit specific target areas like the triple ring, double ring, or bullseye for maximum points. The game can be played in various formats, but commonly, players start from a set score (e.g., 501) and subtract their points with each throw until they reach zero, finishing on a double or the bullseye. The player to reach zero first wins.

Terminology Used in Darts

Bullseye: The central and highest-scoring area on the dartboard, typically worth 50 points for the outer bullseye and 25 points for the inner bullseye.

Double: The thin outer ring of the dartboard, which, when hit, doubles the score of the section where the dart lands.

Triple: The thin inner ring of the dartboard, which, when hit, triples the score of the section where the dart lands.

Checkout: The final throw(s) required to reduce a player's score to zero and win the game.

Oche: The designated throwing line on the floor, typically located 7 feet 9.25 inches from the face of the dartboard.

Ton: Scoring 100 points with a single throw (e.g., hitting triple 20).

Ton-80: The highest possible score in a single turn, achieved by hitting three triple 20s, totaling 180 points.

Leg: A single game of darts, often part of a larger match.

Set: A collection of legs, typically used in tournament formats.

Bust: When a player's score exceeds the remaining points needed to win the game.

Marker: A player who keeps track of scores and marks them on a chalkboard.
