22nd September 2021, Dubai—R417A refrigerant can be used as a straight replacement for R22. The gas does not require liquid charging and can be used to top up if the system has a leak (as long as the system has R417A at the start).

One goal of producing these blends was to produce chlorine-free refrigerants (ODP = 0) for the straightforward conversion of existing R22 plants, similar to the creation of R422A (R422A as a substitute for R22 and R502).

While the situation is significant, it is not as urgent as we hear on the market. Numerous households have been informed that R22 is now prohibited and that they must upgrade their HVAC systems to comply with the legislation. That is not true. In a number of states, it is prohibited to import or produce R2
